Our Community Journey

There's much to see here. So, take your time, look around, and learn all there is to know about the development concerns. We hope you enjoy our site and take a moment to drop us a line.

There are 4 main points of concern that uncontrolled development that threaten our quality of life:

1. Lack of infrastructure (sewer, roads, etc)

2. Concern of septic tank risk

3. Traffic

4. Increased taxes

We believe that the development of our community, currently being managed by people who do not reside here, should require consideration and mitigation of our concerns. We want to be clear, we are not against development, rather we want to be included in the process.

Legal News

Several major home builders and real estate developers are active in the Moncks Corner, SC area (ZIP code 29461, Berkeley County), including D.R. Horton, Lennar, Pulte Homes, Eastwood Homes, Crescent Homes, Dream Finders Homes, Ashton Woods, and Beazer Homes.

Some have faced lawsuits or significant complaints, often related to alleged construction defects in new homes.

Here's a summary based on available reports:

D.R. Horton Lawsuit

One of the most frequently mentioned builders in the area with legal issues. Multiple lawsuits have been filed against them in Berkeley County for problems like improperly installed roofs, persistent drainage issues causing home damage, septic system failures, and other defects (e.g., missing pipes, thin insulation, structural roof issues). A notable class-action lawsuit involves septic tank and drainage failures in the French Quarter Creek neighborhood in Huger, affecting dozens of homes.

Lennar

Active in subdivisions like Cypress Preserve in Moncks Corner. Reports include homeowner complaints about unresolved warranty issues, such as poorly installed vinyl siding, causing visible defects. No active lawsuits were detailed in recent coverage, but frustration over the lack of repairs has been noted.

Pulte Homes

Homeowners in Berkeley County have reported substandard construction, including defects in roofs, trusses, foundations, sealant, and non-conforming materials. Lawsuits over the past several years include a settled 2022 case involving an improper/illegal foundation requiring a rebuild and an October 2022 suit alleging faulty construction. Additional complaints involve failure to complete repairs and code violations.

Others

Other builders like Eastwood Homes operate in Moncks Corner but have fewer area-specific lawsuit reports in public sources (some defects cases appear in nearby counties). Construction defect claims are common industry-wide in growing areas like the South Carolina Lowcountry, often involving subcontractors or inspection processes.
